How FIZ brings together invoices and transactions

To see who owes you and how much to set aside for taxes, your invoices and bank transactions need to be in one place.

  1. Connect the AT and your bank

Connect your Portal das Finanças account to FIZ, and FIZ imports the invoices you issued and received in the last 9 months.

We recommend connecting your bank too: access is read-only, and FIZ imports your transactions from the last 9 months.

  2. FIZ updates the data

Every day FIZ updates the list and status of your invoices from the Portal das Finanças (e‑Fatura). With your bank connected, FIZ updates transactions and balance every day, or you can upload your bank statement to FIZ in Excel or CSV from time to time.

  3. FIZ matches and sorts

FIZ matches invoices to payments, shows what is paid and what is due, and suggests a category for each transaction and invoice, like goods for resale or rent.

Where does FIZ get your invoices and bank transactions?

Invoices from e‑Fatura (AT)

Whoever issues an invoice with your NIF or NIPC (tax number) reports it to the AT in e‑Fatura. Every day FIZ imports your issued and received invoices from there.

Invoices issued in FIZ

Invoices you issue in FIZ show up in the list straight away, and FIZ matches them with payments.

Certified invoicing

Invoices not in e‑Fatura

For example, invoices from foreign suppliers. FIZ gives you your own @fiz.co email address: forward them to it or upload the file, and FIZ adds them to the rest.

Bank transactions

Connect your bank account with read-only access and FIZ imports incoming and outgoing payments every day. Without a connected bank, you can upload an Excel or CSV statement from time to time.

Invoices from suppliers outside Portugal

Invoices from Google Ads, Adobe and other foreign suppliers are not in e‑Fatura, because these suppliers do not report them to the AT.

  1. Your @fiz.co address for invoices

FIZ gives you your own @fiz.co email address. Forward invoices to it yourself or give it to your suppliers as your billing email, and FIZ adds each invoice as soon as it arrives. You can also upload an invoice as a PDF, PNG or JPG.

  2. FIZ reads the invoice details

FIZ fills in the supplier, the date and the amounts. You can correct them if needed.

  3. FIZ links the invoice to its payment

When the payment clearly matches the invoice, FIZ links them automatically. When in doubt, FIZ suggests the link for you to confirm with one click.

Bank accounts and cash

With your bank connected, FIZ shows the balances and transactions of the accounts you choose. You can also record cash payments in FIZ.

Bank connection: read-only access

Choose your bank in FIZ and authorise the connection in your bank’s app or website. FIZ only sees balances and transactions; your money stays in your bank.

Frequently asked questions about transactions and invoices

Can I start with a bank statement?

Yes. Import the statement in Excel or CSV, and FIZ matches those transactions to invoices, just as it does with those from a connected bank.

Can I bring in invoices from other software?

Yes. Once invoices from other software are reported to AT, they are in e‑Fatura, and FIZ imports them with the rest.

Which banks can I connect to FIZ?

More than 40 banks and payment accounts that work in Portugal: Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Millennium bcp, Santander, Novobanco, BPI and other Portuguese banks, and also Revolut, N26, Wise and PayPal. Choose your bank in FIZ and allow read-only access.

Can I connect several bank accounts?

Yes. You can connect several accounts, at the same bank or at different banks. FIZ shows the transactions and the balance of each account in one place and matches payments to your invoices, whichever account they reach.

How long does the bank access last?

180 days. FIZ only reads your transactions and balance, and under the EU payment services rules the bank asks you to confirm access again every 180 days. Before it ends, FIZ reminds you to renew the connection: open it in FIZ and confirm in your bank, as the first time. If you do not renew, FIZ stops updating that account, and the transactions already imported stay in FIZ.

Is the bank connection read-only?

Yes. FIZ sees balances and transactions. You still make payments and transfers yourself, in your bank.
