Income and expenses by project. With categories and rules.

FIZ suggests categories for invoices and bank transactions: sales, materials, rent. With one tag per project, you see how much you received and spent on each one.

How FIZ organises income and expenses

  1. FIZ collects invoices and transactions

Once you connect your bank and AT (the Portuguese tax authority), everything arrives automatically, with a suggested category.

How to connect your bank and AT
  2. One tag per project

Group income and expenses by project, cost centre, department or branch. You choose the tag names.

  3. The total for each project

Select one or more tags and a period: FIZ shows the matching income and expenses.

A category for every transaction

You can change the suggested category or create your own. A few examples:

Service revenue

A customer’s payment for a service you provided.

Advertising and marketing

Ads and promotion of your business.

Transfer between own accounts

Money moved between your own accounts is kept apart from income and expenses.

Clear categories for you. SNC ledger accounts for your accountant.

Company categories are linked to accounts in the SNC, Portugal’s official accounting system for companies. So your accountant reviews the transactions directly in the accounts they use.

Automatic rules for recurring transactions

Create a rule for bank income or expenses. When the customer or supplier name contains, starts with or equals the text you enter, FIZ does what you chose: renames the transaction, assigns the category, adds tags.

FIZ applies rules to new transactions and, if you wish, to earlier ones too. If several rules match, the first in the list applies; you can change the order.

Frequently asked questions about categories and projects

How does a tag differ from a category?

A category describes the type of income or expense, such as service revenue or material purchases. A tag brings together transactions of different types: for example, rent, advertising and materials for the Porto branch get the “Porto branch” tag and keep their own categories.

Categories and tags
How can I view income and expenses by tag?

Select the period and one or more tags. FIZ shows income and expenses matching at least one selected tag.

Which plans include categories, tags and rules?

For the self-employed, categories for expense invoices are on every paid plan. Categories for bank transactions, tags and rules are on Prime and Prime Pro. For companies, all of this is on FIZ Max.

Does FIZ organise everything automatically?

Partly. FIZ suggests the category, and you can change it. The project tag is added by you or by a rule you have created.

How rules work
What does the total by tag show?

It shows separately how much you received and how much you paid in the selected period, in the transactions with at least one of the selected tags. It is the money that came in and went out; the project’s accounting profit may differ.

Does an expense’s category count for the IVA deduction?

Yes, if your plan includes the periodic IVA declaration: FIZ uses the category when it prepares the declaration. The deduction also depends on the invoice showing your NIF and on the expense being for the business; in a company, the accountant confirms it.
